Brief Profile
SSD is a Non-profit and Non-Governmental Organization, founded in 1999 and is registered with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ministry of Commerce & Industry under Society’s Registration Act, 1860. SSD in collaboration with other humanitarian organization contributed in the thematic sectors included Livelihood, WASH, Education, Health, DRR and Emergency Response.
SSD effectively worked for
rehabilitation and reconstruction of Earth Quake affected areas of AJK and
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has been working for resilience of disaster affected,
deprived and under developed vulnerable communities in different regions of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and FATA.
Apart from its Earth Quake and developmental
interventions, SSD is an active Clusters Partner and has been remained actively
involved in responding to militancy related IDP crises in the province right
from day one. SSD in coordination with its humanitarian partners provided basic
facilities that included shelter, drinking water, sanitation and hygiene
education to almost 50% of the IDPs in camps during the peak days of the
emergency. Besides the above mentioned interventions in IDP camps, SSD also remained
actively involved in the recovery and rehabilitation of IDPs in the area of return.
SSD also played a proactive role in responding
to 2010 floods in the province. It initiated its life saving activities through
provision of clean drinking water, sanitation facilities along with hygiene
education during the emergency phase and then with the support of UN and other humanitarian
partners early recovery initiatives restored damaged community physical infrastructure,
revitalized key livelihood sources and promoted safer / resilient communities through
integrated approach of restoration of basic community infrastructure, revival
of livelihoods and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the worst flood affected
districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Since 2004 SSD has successfully implemented over 60 Projects worth of more than US $ 10 M.
